Winyo and Fancy Fingers Score New Documentary Widow Champion, Premiering at Tribeca
Award-winning Kenyan musician and Abubilla artist Winyo has added ‘film composer’ to his impressive résumé, teaming up once again with Fancy Fingers to compose the original soundtrack for upcoming documentary Widow Champion.
The film, directed by Kenyan filmmaker Njoki Muhoho, tells the gripping and inspiring story of Alice Wahome, a 64-year-old widow who defies cultural tradition and corruption to lead a motorcycle taxi business in rural Kenya. It’s a story of resilience, justice, and the power of women-led community change.
Widow Champion is set to premiere at Canada’s Hot Docs Festival this April, followed by screenings at Dokfest in Germany and the prestigious Tribeca Festival in New York City this June.
With a score that blends traditional African instrumentation and contemporary arrangements, the collaborative songwriting and production of Winyo and Fancy Fingers bring emotional depth and cultural nuance to the screen—further establishing Winyo as one of East Africa’s most versatile and visionary artists.
